Hi Peggy, When we left in 2003 we said we would be back. The Swindlers (Richard, Nina and myself) and the Johnsons (Jackie and Steve) are looking forward to a trip back in January of 2007. In addition we will be bringing the Johnsons daughter Sharon and another couple the Meyers ( Barb and Max) as well. We will need 4 double rooms. Can you tell me what the rates would be in January? How soon do we need to book to ensure we can stay with you? Of course there is nowhere else in Cuzco we would stay. I noticed that you now set up tours. That would be great to work with you to get things settled. Is it possible to set up a tour to Tambopata through you? It would save me trying to figure it out. The group wants to do the regular tours (city, Sacred Valley and Machu Pichu) they also have expressed an interest in possibly seeing the Wari ruins. I looked up the Tambopata tour you suggested ... it sounds great. Of course with your recommendation we can't go wrong. Feel free to use any thing you wish from the emails. We love your place. We felt like part of the family. A few days ago I was talking with the Johnson's daughter Sharon and she was telling me that she had seen a really good package deal to Cuzco on line and she thought we should check it out. I told her I had seen the same one but to ask her Mom how many places there were to stay in Cuzco. The answer ... only one! My folks have stay many places in Cuzco on their 2 missions to Peru and say yours is by far the best. We are looking forward to seeing you and your family again.

We will forever treasure the many memories of things we saw and did but most especially the friends we made at Torre Dorada. It is difficult to express the feelings we left Peru with but they largely result from our personal relationships with you. You went our of your way to assure we had a pleasant stay in Peru and that our slightest wishes were accommodated. The reputation of Torre Dorada, that we were already aware of, was exceeded by our personal experience. All of the glowing testimonials from prior guests of Torre Dorada we now willingly echo.

Travelers to unfamiliar countries have an endless number of concerns and decisions to face while about. Thankfully, the decision as to where to stay in your journey to Cusco will be an easy one. Hotel Torre Dorada is located in the clean and quiet Huancaro section of Cusco, yet remains only minutes from the bustling Plaza De Armas, the life-blood of the city. The location is superb for those looking to be close to the action, but enjoy a quiet nights sleep and welcome respite from the never-ending activity of the downtown area. As always, the hotel staff is eager to provide transportation to any destination city wide, at any time of the day or night. This proved to be a particularly notable asset to our group on many occasions. To start your day, a continental breakfast is offered every morning. However, during our stay we came to expect much more, often enjoying a hot meal and delicious home baked pastries. Hot tea and coffee are also offered throughout the afternoon and through the evening and were warmly welcomed by our crew. A clean, comfortable and modern room felt like home upon arrival in the evening. The room and its bathroom were spacious and impeccably clean. They were maintained spotlessly from the first day of our stay until our departure. A cozy lobby area located outside of the rooms on each floor provides a great place to relax and catch up with the daily news or to search for a movie on cable television. The laundry service provided by the hotel is a fantastic feature which was utilized and loved by our crew. Peggy, the hotel owner, and her staff are available at any time with answers to questions about directions, sightseeing, dining and numerous other activities available in and around Cusco. For the traveler new to the area, such as we were, good advice regarding various sights and events around the city is invaluable. The previous attributes speak volumes of the staff and their willingness to assist in any way possible to make your stay extraordinarily pleasant, with a five star level of comfort and security. Being a family owned and operated business run by people with a passion for service and hospitality, that any needs that may arise during your stay will be met swiftly and courteously, leaving you able to thoroughly enjoy your vacation. I feel that I can speak for the crew in expressing our sincerest appreciation to Peggy and her entire staff at her wonderful establishment. The accolades given by everyone are extremely heart felt and deserved. Torre Dorada has truly set the bar for hotels in Cusco. We hope to see our friends at the Torre Dorada in the near future and wish them only the very best.

Just got back from Cusco and stayed at the Torre Dorada hotel. There is a lot to like about this place with only a few minor annoyances. First, the building itself is very new and modern and constructed to serve as a hotel. It is a beautiful, multi-story building in a quiet and safe residential neighborhood. This is good and this is bad. Good because you are out of the way of the hustle and bustle tourist-filled center part of Cusco. Bad, for the same reason. To get to the Plaza de Armas, is about an 8 minute car ride or 35 minutes walking. To make up for this, the hotel offers free pick up and delivery to anywhere in the city (within reason) using their own, personal, and safe drivers. I found that to be a nice touch and more than made up for the distance from the center of town. Also, on the plus side, they are close to the Terminal Terrestre (Bus Station) and the airport. That made getting into and out of Cusco a breeze. Our room was excellent. It was extremely clean, modern, and well built. We had nice wooden floors and a comfortable bed. The bathroom was modern, clean and made good use of materials. Water was almost instantly hot and never ran out. To read more click here Much like a larger hotel, they provided more than just soap, and offered some quality shampoos and conditioners. Everything about the room was in excellent shape and you can tell they take pains to keep it that way. On each floor, the rooms are clustered around a common room that has a small library and a decent sized TV. At first, I was slightly annoyed at that, but then realized that it was the better design. This is because, in the common room, you are bound to run into other travellers and be able to share information, tips and general goodwill. Over the three nights we were there, we met people from all over and it was a positive experience. Service was more than excellent. The staff are all very genuinely friendly, and very attentive to your needs. I cannot say that for other places we stayed in Peru. All the desk people and drivers always greet you with a smile and a warm "Buenos Dias". You almost feel guilty as they rush to open doors for you or carry something up to your room. Another plus is that they have relationships with reputable tour agencies around Cusco and can help you set up activites. They do not take any commision for this. They do it for free. I cannot stress how important it is that you get in with a reliable tour company. There are so many street touts that hit you up for tours, and so many storefronts each offering their own versions of tours, or shared tours and whatnot. Torre Dorada has done all of the work for you. They helped us book a river-rafting trip at the last moment in the Sacred Valley that turned out to be wonderful and very affordable to boot. So, if you stay here, give them a call or email ahead and ask them to help you book your tours. They know all the places to go and see very well and will help you decide. Every morning, included in the price, they offered breakfast. The breakfasts were elegant and well-stocked. The fruit was always fresh, and prepared for you. Very tasty too. They offered cereals, yogurt, juices, teas, coffee, cakes and pastries, granola, cheese, meats and bread. If you wanted eggs, you could have those cooked to order. The breakfast room was sunny, warm and decorated to make you feel at home. It is also a great place to bump into other travellers and share your stories. There a few very minor things they could improve. The first is that use of the internet is not free. It is a few soles for the whole day. They have wireless Ethernet, but it is not always on. They ought to bump the price a dollar and give free Internet access. Second, I would not stay in the rooms on the first floor. This is because the front desk foyer is also the common room for the first floor and you can hear people talking rather easily through the door. We stayed on the 3rd and 4th floors. To be fair, although the 1st floor rooms are numbered like the other rooms, I am not sure if they are using them for offices or their staff and I never thought to ask. Last, they charge up to an 8% fee for using credit cards. I understand the reasons behind this, so I cannot fault them, but it made for some emergency trips to the ATM to get the proper cash needed to pay. I am not sure how they can remedy this, other than raising the price to cover their own costs. Overall, we had a great stay here and I would definitely recommend others to stay here. Eric Nelson, Tripadvisor.com Remedied: From 2008 on the Internet will go for free; the new reception, lobby and cafeteria will be located away from room areas; and wireless will be improved with higher powered antennas. Done!
